Fabric Collages

A cool summers night in Melbourne tonight so changed into the trackies and settled down to tackle some of my outstanding UFOs. These photos are of fabric collages, each constructed in a mono tone of a color. My favorite piece is the blue. The green one has just been finished. The next one to be completed is the flowers, you may note that l have  plastic covering over it. This plastic covering is Wash Away Plastic. Ideal to place over work where you have a number of small pieces of fabric that need to be held in place to allow for easy stitching......ensuring the foot of the sewing machine does not tangle up with the fabric

They say put a chop on the barbie we say  "PUT SOME WOOL ON A KNITTING NEEDLE" this Australia Day.  

Brown Scrap Quilt, Step 4

Step 4 Brown Scrap Quilt
This step involved ironing the prepared rectangles to the base fabric. Peel off the visoflex from the back of the cut out fabric rectangles.
Then place the fabric rectangles onto the base fabric in a random arrangement. Iron the fabrics into place. This is a quilt that allows you to fussy cut your fabrics.....a i spy quilt would work very well with this concept. Plus allows you to whip it up very quickly if need be.

Step 3 Brown Scrap Quilt.

Tonight when l got home thought l might attack the ironing basket but someone else had other ideas....lol

So now onto step 3 of the Brown Scrap Quilt

So now have turned my energies to the next step in the Brown Scrap Quilt. With a metre of Visoflex traced out rectangle shapes. For my template l used the outline of a Cup A Soup box.
The second photo illustrates the visoflex adhered to the back of the fabric...ready to cut out.

Brown Scrap Qult; Step 2

Step 2 of the Brown Scrap Quilt. Cut the top and backing fabric to the size of a lap quilt. Iron the fabric scraps. Let Tosca comfort test the fabrics chosen.

Brown Scrap Quilt: Beginnings

Just about to start a new scrap quilt, have few ideas in mind. Quick, easy and fun is what l have in mind. Might fold over the backing fabric to the front to form the bindings on completion.

Another Scrap Quilt Technique

This quilt is a great way of using up extra squares from other projects. The backing fabric was bigger than the quilt top thus allowing to form the bindings.... A project that was easily completed in a afternoon.
36 x 5" squares sewn into 6 rows and joined. Backing fabric measured 80cm x 80cm, with the extra overhang being folded over in the front to form the bindings.

A True Scrap Quilt

Scrap Quilts
“What Does One Do With All Those Tiny Misfit Scraps Of Fabric?”
The fabric for this quilt was gathered in charm packs from members of a quilt group l attend. This particular year as our birthdays came around we would receive, from other members of the group, 10 squares 5” x 5” of the worst fabric they had in their stash.
Combined with a variety of off cuts of plain blue fabric and tiny scraps l constructed a pile of snowball squares and a pile of nine patch squares.
The next step involved making up rows of alternating nine patch and snowball blocks.
As the rows were sewn together there was always a nine patch block above and below the snowball block.
Thus the number of scrap squares you construct will determine the finished size of this quilt.
A true scrap quilt.
