Step 2 New Body Of Work

Step 2 New Body Of Work
This morning commenced the next step which is to develop the background layer of stitching. This layer is equivalent to the undergrowth so dark colours utilized here. Mainly filling in the blocks of painted colour with small circular stitches. No structual definition is developed in this step.
This photo shows the mid area of the scene being covered in small circular stitch using a grey thread.

Preparation Of The Fabric

Here begins the process first l like to draw/ sketch the piece of work, only a fews minutes to do this. Mainly to get the feel of the different areas and the different number of layers that might be needed to build up the work.
Also to help me develop an idea of the layers within this piece l will print it off in black and white. Now with a sense of the major outlines l will transfer this imagery to the fabric piece.
The final preparation step before stitch is to fill in the background of work with blocks of background colour. Here l used acrylic paint. Did not wash the fabric thus sizing still present in the fabric, a bit harder to get even coverage with the paint but it is only the background so not too much of an issue.

New Body Of Work

With many projects finished nows a good time to start a new body of work. My favourite place of solace at this point in time is in central NSW ontop of a mountain called Mt Canobolas. So what a perfect theme for my next body of work.lve taken numerous pictures of the area. Heres the first one lve chosen to work with.

Almost Finished.

These two pieces are well on the way to being finished tonight. This stage involves tying off threads, adding machine stitch to the foreground, squaring off, satin stitch edging and bead work.

A New Project

Went for a visit to Wellington NSW look at the find of a curtain sampler, ideas running riot to what projects might be constructed from this colour spread.
